To tie in with the 'Rama II' re-release, Gollancz have also re-issued 'Rendezvous With Rama' under their SF Masterworks by-line, so there's no excuse for missing either book.
'Rendezvous With Rama' tells of a gigantic cylindrical spaceship spotted entering the Solar System and the expedition to discover what is going on. It's far from a first contact story though. Arthur Clarke was in his hay day in 1973 when this was originally released with big unknown alien things and took a totally different look re-emphasising that alien agendas are less likely to have anything to do with our own and let the explore beware of making false judgements. This book is still highly regarded and should be amongst your collection.
