Max is back. Starting where 'The Angel Experiment' left off, the family are still on the wing from the scientists. She's still reeling from the revelation that she had a brother, a vicious gene-manipulated Eraser, and she just killed him.
They fly on. Max has a voice in her head and its really ticking her off by telling her that she has to save the world. How Max doesn't know how, as its difficult enough to keep her disparate group together and feed them. Faced with the new threat of flying Erasers, the group win through and find a safe haven. Time to rest up and make plans but all is not as it seems. Their past is always ready to catch up with them and the group can't fly forever.
This is a great adventure story for kids and adults. There's not a dull moment and whilst not as deep and meaningful as it occasionally thinks, there's nothing wrong with pure escapism. For kids who dream of freedom from homework schedules and parental restrictions, this story is an excellent way to escape for a few hours. If you like twists and turns and viewpoint changes, this is for you.
James Patterson seems to know pretty well how much to put into the plot and how to save up some goodies for future books. It's not a massively long book and reminds of the old fashioned cliff-hanger serials that left you breathless and wanting more. Far from the dull pacing that has characterised even massive selling children's books this is a return to fun!
