Heidi Cyr's short, compact collection of short stories is eclectic and pocket-sized. The book is nicely presented, although not having the author's name on any part of the cover is a very poor PR move for any writer.

The stories themselves are frequently whimsical, often taking risks with both story and style. They often have a dark twist, like that in 'Mr Heisenberg's Principles' where a man travels back in time to groom a young girl to love him.

The best story is 'Not To Come To Not', about a brother and sister living deep in the mountains, untouched by a huge future war. When they stumble across a wounded soldier, things get fraught with danger and emotion.

The collection has the tag line 'Is It Love, Or Just Another Psychotic Episode?' and that serves very well to sum up the experience. All of the stories, all of which are short and some are barely a few pages, address love in a strange, schizophrenic kind of way.

'The Lost And Found' about a boy that grows up with trees is quite sweet, and the penultimate story 'X & Y' is perhaps the most direct of all the pieces, about a clone. The last story sums up the problem I have with a lot of the work here, it's too esoteric, too experimental and often fall short.

Having said that there are some good stories here towards the experimental, literary side of the genre. I can't say this collection will stand as one of my favourite examples of SF short fiction but I'm glad I had the chance to read it.
