Some times you don't know what you're going to get when you approach a publisher. In this instance, the premiere issue of a new series featuring the personnas of the members of the rock band Kiss. This isn't the first time Kiss has graced comic books. Back in the late 70s, they appeared briefly in Marvel Comics. Now Platinium Studios has brought them to the fore again. Outside of Kiss, how many other bands do you know could work as a comic book? Kiss in make-up have always been larger than life which no doubt adds to their appeal.
Here, they are coerced into freeing Santa Claus. Three of them are willing but Celestial (aka Ace Frehley) doesn't believe in him so they steal a space shuttle to battle a devil to free him. This Santa rocks as well so things aren't quite what they seem.
This issue is a lead-in to a five issue Kiss mini-series 'Legends Never Die' coming out this year. You either like Kiss or you don't. They still have legends of fans who will pick up anything featuring them. I have to confess to having several items in my own collection but then, I also like a lot of their early music. Writer Chuck Dixon seems to have enjoyed himself writing this story and Ton Rodriguez has kept a serious pace with it with his art.
Even though Christmas has passed a few months ago, this issue is still making some impact on Google. It's still available though so don't pay outrageous prices if you want a copy. If the art samples at the back from the mini-series are anything to go by then it should be quite a rocket ride.
