This is a combined reprint of the comic Birds Of Prey # 104-108 and is a continuation of the previous edition I reviewed. The team have been taken over by Spymaster from Oracle to run a mission in Russia to retrieve some advanced technology. What they aren't told is that there was more involved until they discover a supposedly dead super-heroine in a suit of Rocket Red armour. Nor that they would be in a constant battle with the Secret Six with several new members as they make their escape. The pace of the story is spread out, giving plenty of time for banter and everyone in the spotlight. Best of all is the finale where Oracle re-gains her team and re-affirms what makes her different to Spymaster.
This book is a definite page-turner. I started reading it late one evening thinking I would finish it in the morning and found I was near the end in the early hours. It must be very frustrating for those who buy the individual comics to have to wait a month between issues these days. This way you get a decent fix in one dose. It would be difficult to cite a preference towards any one character. Team books mean the team not the individual is important. Even so, they are all individual enough to be recognised by the dialogue which is a rare accomplishment and shows how effective writer Gail Simone is. The artwork by Nicola Scott and Doug Hazlewood is equally effective. Comicbooks are invariably a team effort themselves and these three gel very nicely. If you got the previous volume, then you'll want this one.
