This is a combined reprint of Catwoman # 66-72, including all its covers. Selina Kyle has never been in more trouble. Hammer and Sickle are after her blood, having beaten up Holly, her stand-in. Holly had been doing well until then, having womped Blitzkrieg. Things are a lot tougher when humans face off against meta-humans and casualties are hard. Ultimately, Selina and Holly are implicated in the death of a police detective and have to lie low.
Not too low. Batman needs Selina for an undercover operation to infiltrate a group off-shoot from the Amazons. The return favour is to ensure Catwoman dies. Saying any more than that gives things away. Suffice to say, whether you're a super-hero or super-villain, raising a baby in that environment is not a healthy life-style. Selina needs the ultimate protection.
These graphic novel reprints are reminding me more and more that DC Comics have matured a lot since I was reading them in the early 90s. Then again, the graphic violence also indicates something that they could only just get away back then as well. I certainly wouldn't want to wander around any of their streets without full body armour or a force field. Nor would I think these comics are selling to pre-teens.
There are some fine sensitive moments and wry moments to balance out the violence in this book. If you missed getting the comics the first time around, then buying these full colour volumes are a must. A roller-coaster of a ride.
