This isn't actually a film soundtrack but one composed for the Playstation computer game 'Sorcery'. As I don't have a Playstation, I guess I can be regarded as being pretty unbias and like this music for its own sake. In the eight page booklet, composer Mark Mancina points out that he composed this with rousing Celtic themes, similar to what he'd done for the film score of 'Moll Flanders'. I'll have to take his word for that at the moment cos I haven't seen that film yet neither. Then again, if you play your computer games with the music turned off, then you might have missed this as well. Now that would be a shame because this musical score deserves to be listened to in its own right because it's a joyous sparkling sixty minutes to set your heart a tingle.
Just as you think you're settling down, track eight, 'Keymaster General', changes the tempo because you're now racing off to war. Hope you survive it in the game.
There is an increasing trend for the music from computer games to be released on CD. Considering that the manufacturers see it as adding to the quality of their product, not to mention hiring film music composers tends to add a bit of prestige, so it's hardly surprising that the CD release will appease those who like composer or game or people like me, who like a decent piece of music. As such, this was a pleasant experience that I'm likely to listen to again.
