SF:
The new Geek Chic?

Just as the global media beast was writing
off Geek Chic as a bizarre aberration of the Dot Com '90s
- hey, having a couple of spare Silicon Valley fueled million in
the bank is enough to make even a stable of supermodels overlook
a man's collection of Deep Space Nine videos - then here comes a
site that ... well, it's not going to make collecting Games Workshop
figures sexy again, but it does have geekly in its title.
And that's enough, in our book, to make Entertainment Geekly
the Nest's site for August.
It kind of reminds us of well, us, when we were a little younger.
It's colorful, well laid out, and - thankfully - doesn't equate
the labours of thinking seriously about SFF as automatically producing
serious SFF.
Their tastes are eclectic too - comics, movies, books, DVDs, general
rants ... any dainty dish that tickles their fancy gets to make
its way in front of the King's nose.
When we checked in they had some nice Farscape reviews like 'The
return of Aeryn Sun' by Diana Estigarribia, Jeff Chen's piece
entitled 'Pirate Jeff's Comics Cove Aaaargh! There be funny books
ahead!', a well written film review of 'Reign of Fire'
by Ivan Sian, and an amusing conference report from deep among the
throng of forty thousand geeks who attended the Wizard World
Chicago con - the latter reported by Matt Springer.
Entertainment Geekly is simple, yet stylish, cheeky yet
scores more than a few well-told points among their prose.
These geeks come baring the gifts of their creative scribblings,
and damned if we didn't like it!
