Go on a Bender and Talk to the Aliens: it's SETI in Reverse 01/09/1999 . Source: Jessica Martin
Picture the scene, your starship's crashed on 20th century Earth, your jump-space relay is screwed, you're 1000 light years from home. Who you gonna call to get you home? Bentspace, that's who!
For $10, those crazy dudes at http://www.bentspace.com will relay the contents of your e-mail directly into deep space using their high-power transmitter dish system. Sizzling space signals, this is SETI in reverse! Said extraterrestrials can also send a reply, which can be received by Bentspace. We imagine you could sell the contents of that one for quite a lot of money to the National Enquirer. Bentspace can't make any promises that your enquires about New York joining the Galactic Federation will be received, but they have a high confidence factor that someone - or thing - is listening out there. The system is configured to use the Web's normal TCP/IP protocol system to connect to a wireless Ethernet network run by Bentspace. Bentspace will then transform your e-mail into a radio message that's run up a high-power parabolic transmitter dish and wopped out into deep space. At the very worse, your message will probably hit some human settlers who will have hyper-drived it over to some distant part of the galaxy to pick up your message in a thousand year's time - a bit like finding a message in a bottle written by Dickens. Actually, the very worse scenario is that your message is received by a technologically advanced & aggressive civilisation that realises that in a couple of hundred years a well-armed humanity is going to be trolling up to their homeworld's doorstep, and decides to make us extinct now.
