Science Fiction & Fantasy ... In danger of becoming trendy?
01/08/2002 Source: Jessica Martin

The Galactic Senate: polls & voting for August 2002.

Nothing gladdens our heart more than to see democracy in action in the science fiction and fantasy world. If you feel the same, dear user, then here's our current and past online polls, as voted for by many a fine fellow (you too can vote, but choose wisely) ...

Science Fiction & Fantasy ... In danger of becoming trendy?

Do science fiction and fantasy fans still get the kind of drubbing from the mainstream media which - if was directed at an ethnic or racial minority - would have the race hate section of the FBI or Scotland Yard calling around to slam TV producers and newspaper proprietors in jail? Or has, perhaps, the concept of Geek Chic slowly been extended to encompass, dare we say it, the SF/F community?

Hell, have you seen the way SFF fans get stick in the media? There isn't a mainstream newspaper, magazine or TV station in the world that can mention the word science fiction & fantasy without using the word geek, focusing in on some honest anorak-wearing member of society, or cutting to stock footage of Klingon opera singers at the last Trekfest.

No, we're becoming cool. Soon the beautiful set at College are going to stop playing American Football and Rugby in favour of walking around campus reading the latest David Weber or China Miéville novel, cheerleaders will ditch their pom-poms and sports training for a couple of really good hands of Magic: The Gathering, Oasis might even turn up at their next concert wearing Farscape t-shirts!
