How to use this cool stuff

Wallpapers & screen backgrounds.

WHAT ARE THEY?
These are static images that can be set as wallpapers - the background screen on your PC or Mac.

They just sit on your monitor in the background, or desktop, giving it a bit of character.

HOW DO YOU SET THEM UP?
PC: Get to the page with the full size image. Click on the image with your right mouse button (PC).

Then choose Set as Wallpaper from the menu that pops up over the image.

The image should now be appearing on your computer screen.

Mac: Click on the picture and hold your mouse button down until a menu pops up, then select 'Download Image to Disk' (Microsoft Explorer) or 'Save this image as...' (Netscape Navigator) from the menu.

This will download the picture to your hard disk.

Now, open the Desktop Pictures Control Panel (it's in your Apple menu), and select the picture you have just saved.

It should now appear as your background screen.

NB this is for Apple System 8.0 or higher

Screensavers.

WHAT ARE THEY?
These are mini-programs that when installed, come to life after you leave you computer unattended for a little while.

They are normally full of animations and sounds (or even tiny games).

Their avowed intent is to stop screen burnout, but they sure are cool - or annoying, depending on your tastes.

HOW DO YOU SET THEM UP?
Click on the hyper-link to the screen-saver, it should start downloading the file.

When you're finished downloading, your browser may - depending on how it was set up - automatically uncompress the file.

Otherwise, you will need to manually uncompress the screensaver file using a free 'lite' decompression utility such as UnZip (PC) or Stuffit (Mac).

After the file is uncompressed, you can just double-click on the program icon to install it.

Go here to download decompression software for the Apple Mac

Or go here to download decompression software for the PC

Here's a good tutorial on file compression if you need further help

You too can be famous.

If you would like to submit a wallpaper or other freebie for consideration in this section, please e-mail it to us (if it under 540k file size please, otherwise send a URL of where it can be found on-line).
