Lord
of the Downloads
Proving the old Hollywood adage that it's never too
early to begin hyping a hobbit, those hairy footed file executives
over at the Lord of the Rings movie have got their trailer in early
- like over a year early.
Yes, the LOTR film may be slated for 2001 release,
but the marketing has already begun. Said Rings preview trailer
is available for download from their web site and we've already
had a peek at this QuickTime movie.
But only, it has to be sadly said, after upgrading
our copy of the QuickTime plug-in for our PC to the very latest
version flavour available from the Apple site (anything else simply
won't be up to the job).
Unfortunately, we had to download the movie multiple
times before we worked out why it isn't playing, so learn from our
mistake and install the new version of QuickTime before you waste
any time grabbing the trailer.
Knowing our chums at Apple, we suspect this may not
be completely accidental. And to be honest, it worked. We wouldn't
have gone to all the rouble of getting QuickTime 4.0 or whatever
it is for the latest Julia Roberts weepie!
Only LOTR could cast that kind of spell on us. Gandalf,
you've worked your magic again, and we hope Steve Jobs is suitably
grateful.
Anyway, the film's trailer features lots of CGI orks
running about the place, and some interviews with the stars taking
place, as well as behind the scene looks at the special effects
studio.
It's a nice little taster for the joys that await
us in MiddleEarth in 2001! Grab that puppy from … http://www.lordoftherings.net
And if you haven't got Quicktime 4.1 then get it free
from here … http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
While we're on the QuickTime trailer round-up beat,
you might also want to have a look at BattleField
Earth or Disney's FX packed new movie, Dinosaur,
not to mention the new X-men
movie, as well as the new SF cartoon movie Titan
