Sneak showing of Star Wars Episode II.

Fancy a sneak peek at the next Star Wars movie?

Then take yourself over to that famous US convention known to us mortals as Dragon*Con.

Why? Because Steve Sansweet at Lucasfilm will be presenting a special sneak peek at Star Wars: Episode II and a look at the entire Saga - including how Episode II will fit in to the cycle.

The presentation will include special production footage that will be shown only at Dragon*Con.

If you're more of a literary bent. Robert Asprin, creator of Thieves World and the Myth Adventure series is back. This will be Asprin's first convention appearance in almost a decade. The con's program book also features a new Myth Adventure tale.

The con's guest list now includes:

Deborah Abbott
Ken Appleton
Robert Lynn Asprin
Bella Morte
Eric Del Carlo
A. C. Crispin
James Doohan
Jerry Doyle
Elonka Dunin
Tom Fleming
Frank Fradella
R. Sabrina Udell
Ethan Van Sciver
Jenette Goldstein
Max Grodenchik
Clay Henss
Eric Lustbader
Richard Lynch
Karen McCullough
The Misfits
Cynthia Myers
Randy Richards
Steve Sansweet
Spock's Beard
Robin Spriggs

Some of the goodies at the show you might want to partake of ...

Ann Crispin's Writer's Workshop
This course, taught by SF writer A.C. Crispin, will provide an overview of the science fiction and fantasy genre. At completion, students will understand the importance of background genre reading, scientific or other appropriate research, developing fleshed-out characters, original or "twist" plotlines, setting, and descriptions in their science fiction or fantasy short stories or novels.

Students will learn sources they can consult to find legitimate, suitable markets for short story or novel submissions. They'll be able to produce a correctly formatted and printed manuscript, and a workable query or cover letter. They'll also be able to identify and avoid the writing scams that are proliferating in today's highly competitive markets.

This course will run for two full-days at Dragon*Con, on Thursday (one day before the con officially begins) and Friday, August 30 and 31. Submission of a manuscript for review by Miss Crispin is desirable, but not required.

Art Show
Last year, the Dragon*Con 2000 Art Show was something of a success. They had 280 items go to auction and had 390 attendees register for bid numbers. As of the end of 2000, they had over 500 inquiries from artists wanting to get more information on how to enter the 2001 Art Show.

The Art Show for 2001 will be located in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, directly across from the main Exhibit Hall. If you are a dab hand with a brush, you can get all the information you need about the Art Show by surfing to http://www.dragoncon.org/artshow.html

Name The Dragon Contest
Since their inception, Dragon Con has always used a dragon as their emblem (their most recent designed by William Stout). Now they want you to name their Dragon.

They're looking for a paragraph or two about his history, and what makes him so special to the Con.

E-mail your entry to the Dragon Con office, along with your name, address, and phone number. Mail to dragoncon@dragoncon.org.

Dragon*Con 2001
August 31 - September 3, 2001
Being held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis (both hotels are connected so you won't need to venture outside).

You can view their most recent Dragon logos over here.

I went to this con a couple of years ago. It's always good fun ... and a lot more friendly than a lot of the other Cons I have visited. Great atmosphere. Great beer.
