After the shellshock of his last cyberpunk outing, a film we shall not name but which was, of course, based on a William Gibson short story, the blighter has finally stumbled into a decent cyberpunk movie … The Matrix.

By luck or judgement, only posterity - and future film choices - will tell.

Looks like the new Matrix movie is becoming the surprise hit of the season, at least until the new Star Wars baby is delivered at the SFX maternity award that is Hollywood.

In its third week of States-only release, the film looks like topping 80 million $ - by the time it rolls over Europe this hefty wodge of the folding green stuff will have swelled to close to 600 million.

Blimey O'Riley, those cocky creatives have surpassed themselves with this one.
